Anne Assoignon
1927 – 2019
It is with deep sorrow the family announces the passing of their beloved mother, grandma, and great grandma, Anne Assoignon on September 29, 2019.
She is survived by her sons Arnold (Sheila) of Snow Lake, and Dennis (Marlene) of Winnipeg; daughters Pat Price of Swan River, Shirley Saseniuk of Swan River, and Sheila Assoignon (Hilbert Nerbas) of Kenville. She will be dearly missed by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her husband Maurice; her sisters Nellie Schmigel and Marion Dutka; brothers Metro and Alec; infant daughter Rose; her mother Vera; father Onufry; and son in laws Michael Saseniuk and Ken Price and brother in law Walter Dutka.
Mom was born December 16, 1927 to Vera (Bowdak) and Onufry Schmigel. She took her schooling at Thunderhill and Porcupine schools. She then went to work in Benito for Dr. and Mrs. Goldstein. She married Maurice Assoignon on July 13, 1947. They farmed in the Whitebeech area until moving to the Thunderhill District in 1965. In 1985 they retired and moved to Swan River. Summer was her favourite season and she loved to be outside. Mom and Dad spent many hours camping and fishing. Mom enjoyed country music and up to her last days, she wanted music.
Mom was a very dedicated mother, grandma, and great grandma. She had many talents; some of which were cooking (the best perogies ever), crafts, seamstress (she sewed many of our clothes) and gardening.
Mom’s passing leaves us with broken hearts and such a void in our lives.
A funeral service was held on Friday, October 4, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services, Swan River, Manitoba with Pastor Neal Effa officiating. Interment followed in the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River, Manitoba.
