Annie Zinchuk

1932 - 2019

On August 19, 2019, Annie Zinchuk of Swan River, Manitoba passed away at the age of 87 years.

Annie was born on August 16, 1932 near Foam Lake, Saskatchewan to Victor and Bella Lapsiuk.  In 1939, her family, which included twin brothers Nick and Harry, moved to the Grahamville District outside of Minitonas. Other members of her mother’s family also farmed in the area and she grew up surrounded by many uncles, aunts and cousins.  

On November 18, 1950 Annie married John Zinchuk of Swan River.  They farmed just north of Swan River, a mile north of the old Lancaster School. On May 18, 1969 they welcomed their only child, daughter Sandra. 

Annie and John initially ran a mixed farming operation but over time shifted solely to grain farming. They were an unstoppable team in their approach to hard work and truly loved their farm. They continued to farm until 1992 at which time they moved into Swan River. 

Annie adapted well to life in town; mostly because she was able to have a large garden and plant many eye-catching flowers. It was a great gift to Annie that she was able to remain in her own home and maintain a garden until her unexpected passing. She made friends easily and spent many hours visiting, having coffee, and doing puzzles with her neighbours and friends from “Crocus Corner”.  

She is survived by her daughter, Sandra Zinchuk of Dauphin and her brother Nick Lapsiuk (Leith Bell) of Swan River.  

She was predeceased by her husband John Zinchuk (2000), parents Victor (1980) and Bella Lapsiuk (1974) and brother Harry Lapsiuk (1975).

It is impossible to capture all that Annie was in a few paragraphs. All who knew her will have their own memories. In the days and years following her passing, give pause once in a while to recall a specific memory and remember her with fondness.

A funeral service was held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services on Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at 10:30 am. Interment followed in the Birchwood Cemetery.
