Welcome to the memorial page for

Erna (Guenther) Sagert

March 8, 1928 ~ January 4, 2018 (age 89) 89 Years Old

On January 4, 2018 Mrs. Erna Sagert of Swan River passed away in the Swan Valley Health Centre at the age of 89 years. She was surrounded by her family.

Erna leaves to mourn her five children; Margaret (Gordon) Leggatt of Swan River, Darlene (Rick) Linley of Winnipeg, Ken (Sandy) Sagert of Swan River, Dorothy (Mark) Hudey of Swan River, and Doug (Dorleen) Sagert of Swan River; also, nine grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and extended family.

Erna was predeceased by her loving husband Joseph Sagert, her parents Leopold and Karoline (Hart) Gunther, sister Annie Gutowski, brother Leo Gunther, and great grandchild Cornelius (Justin and Jennifer) Sagert.

Erna was born on March 8, 1928 in Porozow, Poland. She accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptised at an early age. In 1943 Erna along with her parents fled Poland and arrived in Germany. She immigrated to Canada in 1948 along with her parents. They settled in the Minitonas area.  On November 9, 1949 she married Joseph Sagert in Minitonas. They settled on a farm next to the Duck Mountains and raised their family there.  They moved off the farm when Joe retired and moved to Minitonas where they resided for nine years.  They then moved to a house in Swan River where they resided until they moved together into the Swan Valley Personal Care Home in the summer of 2012.

Erna was a living example of what it means to love.  She loved everyone, especially her husband, kids, grandkids and great grandkids.  Nothing made her happier than to do things for them and just to be with them.  She was a very busy lady with farm chores, gardening and canning, taking care of her home and family and feeding everyone.  For many years Erna did not have the modern conveniences we take for granted.  Still, she found time to just be there for her family and to host extended family.  She welcomed all and made sure everyone was well fed. Even after her children grew up and left the farm she hosted them and their expanding families as long as she was able.  While at the Personal Care Home, Erna welcomed you with a smile even if she may not have known who you were. She told you how happy she was to see you and always wanted to know when you were coming to visit again.  She reminded her family that she was praying for them. Erna loved to crochet and was a pro at mending clothing.  She loved flowers and enjoyed all the indoor and outdoor family activities.

Thank you to all the staff at the Swan Valley Health Centre for their loving care of Erna in her final days and also to the staff at the Swan Valley PCH for all their care while she resided there.  Also, a thank you to Lorne and the Swan Valley Funeral Services Ltd. for all their help with arrangements.  In lieu of flowers a donation can be made to Wellman Lake Bible Camp c/o Box 60, Swan River, Manitoba R0L 1Z0
