Welcome to the memorial page for

Ethel Anne (Tait) Dutkiwch

November 23, 1952 ~ December 7, 2017 (age 65) 65 Years Old

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Ethel Anne Dutkiwch on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at the young age of 65.

She was predeceased by her parents, Gordon and Florence Tait and will be deeply missed by her husband Russel; and daughters Carrie-Anne Dutkiwch (Corrie McKee) and Tricia (Kelly Leason); and grandchildren Taryn and Kennedi Leason; brother Reid (Bonnie) Tait; and sister Rosemary Ledinski and numerous friends and family.

The youngest of three children, Ethel was born November 23, 1952 in Carrot River, Saskatchewan and remained there most of her school years until moving to Hudson Bay.  She and Russel soon thereafter would make a move to Saskatoon to begin their life and start a family. This journey would take Ethel to Thompson, Manitoba, returning to Hudson Bay where both her children would graduate, and eventually settling in Swan River.  Ethel made the decision to return to school later in her life and enjoyed her studies.  She obtained her Nurses Aide Certificate and became employed at the Swan Valley Lodge.

Ethel loved helping others and her natural ability to be attentive and compassionate was noted in her work ethic as she comforted and cared for many residents.  She was reliable and respected as a colleague among her peers and was never far away to lend a hand.  Her passions were baking, canning, gardening, crocheting, watching re-runs of any sitcom from the 70s and 80s, and most of all celebrating the successes of her children and grandchildren when able.  She would read ghost stories and Archie comics and was the keeper of all history from the family.  Pictures, news clippings and old articles were among her prized possessions.  Growing up with family pets made it so natural for Ethel to love animals unconditionally.  Ethel was a kind, generous, and loving person and will always be remembered by her family.  She loved her children with all her heart and will live on through their acts of kindness and generosity.  She is gone far too soon, but will never be forgotten in the hearts who knew her best.  We love you and we will miss you, always.

Special thanks to the staff of the Swan River Hospital for their compassionate care during her final days.

A celebration of Ethel’s life will be held at the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services on February 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m.   Following the service please join family and friends for lunch at the Swan Valley Historical Museum.  A private family interment will take place at a later date.
