Obituary

George Church

1953 – 2019

George was born in Winnipeg on May 23, 1953. Seven weeks later he came into the care of Gwen and Creth Church who were residing in the Big Woody District at that time and was fully adopted on April 2, 1964.

George married Cindy Littlewood of Gilbert Plains on September 1,1979. They were blessed with two sons. Brett and Braden, Their pride and joy.

George received his education in the Swan Valley School Division. At a very young age George discovered his skill for bowling and in 1985 he won the CBC 5 pin Canadian Championship.  George spent many hours trapping with his father on their Whitefish Lake Trap Line. This is where he developed his love of the outdoors. George and Creth also did an annual trip to the North Bay Ontario area to visit family.

George worked with his father at Swan River Scrap Metal from a very young age, taking over the family business in the late 1980s and continued to work there until his passing. In December of 1994 George became a charter member of the Minitonas and District Lions Club where he developed many friendships and was apart of many projects throughout the Swan Valley.

George loved being at the shop during the week and being around the campfire with his family during the weekend. His greatest enjoyment was watching his sons grow into two fine young men.

George was predeceased by his parents Gwen and Creth Church, as well as many aunts and uncles.  George leaves to mourn his passing, his wife of forty years Cindy; sons Brett (Lana) of Swan River, Braden of Minitonas; sister in law Neoma Stiegler (Dave Lukie) of Minitonas, as well as many other relatives and close friends.

George passed away with his family by his side on Wednesday September 25, 2019 at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg.
