Lillian Grieger, age 91, went peacefully to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 26th, 2018.
Lily was born on April 15, 1927, to Ida and Prokop Boymook, in a village in Poland. In 1928, Ida and Prokop immigrated to Canada with Lily and her sister, Melita, along with Ida’s family. They settled on a farm in Yellowgrass, Saskatchewan, owned by Lily’s Uncle Archie. In the 1930’s, the Boymook family moved to a farm near Minitonas, Manitoba, where the girls grew up with 3 more siblings, Art, Mary and Norman.
Lily was active in Minitonas First Baptist Church all her life. She was baptized by Rev. Richard Schilke when she was 17. She was involved with children’s ministries as Sunday School Superintendent, and also with the youth group. In the 1950’s, Lily was part of God’s Volunteers, an evangelistic group of young people affiliated with the North American Baptist Conference, under the leadership of Pastor & Mrs. Strauss.
Lily’s first employment was at Dolovich’s General Store, which lasted for approximately 15 years. She then worked at the Co-op in Swan River as a cashier, retiring in 1997. If she didn’t know your name, she knew your number.
In 1969, Lily was married to Robert (Bob) Grieger, who had 2 children: Dori and Terry. Bob’s brother, Herb, was married to Lily’s sister, Mary. The families farmed together and were almost inseparable as they grew up. In 1997, Bob and Lily were proud to become grandparents to Rebecca, daughter of Dori and her husband Stan. Once Lily and Bob retired, they enjoyed taking part in a few bus tours across Canada and the United States. They loved to travel to Brandon to take in family activities with their grand-daughter, Rebecca.
Lily was well known for her hard work and her beautiful garden. She hosted many family gatherings and always had a tray full of her famous homemade doughnuts. After Bob passed away in 2009, Lily lived in her home until her health deteriorated in the Fall of 2016. She resided the last number of months at the Swan River Personal Care Home. Lily’s brother Norm was a faithful support and companion during these years.
Lily is predeceased by her parents Ida and Prokop Boymook, husband Robert Grieger, sister Melita Dahl, and brother Art Boymook. Left to mourn are step-children Dori Driedger (Stan & grand-daughter, Rebecca), Terry Grieger (Evelyn), sister Mary Goltz (Walter), brother Norman Boymook and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the caregivers at Swan River Personal Care Home for their support and care for Lily.
