Melba Stilborn
1930 – 2019
Melba Ellen Stilborn (nee Beattie) of Swan River, Manitoba passed away on February 17, 2019 at the Swan Valley Health Centre.
Melba was born on September 26, 1930 in Miniota, Manitoba to John David Beattie and Emily Ellen Craig. She was the second of three children and the only daughter.
As a young child, Melba and her family moved to the Pretty Valley area. Melba attended the Pretty Valley School. When school was done Melba worked on the farm to help her family, and worked at various other jobs for other people.
On December 1, 1949 Melba married (the late) Leslie Stilborn. In time, five boys were added to their life; Wayne from Fort McLeod, Alberta; Stanley (Darlene) from Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan; Lloyd from Swan River, Manitoba; Terry from Swan River; and Ted (Shanlee) from Swan River. In 2005 Melba became a grandma to Hanna and again in 2010 to Luke. She also leaves many nieces and nephew; and sister in law Sonia Beattie.
During her life, Melba loved to garden, bake, knit and enjoyed going to town and seeing her friends. She also loved spending time with her grandchildren. Melba was predeceased by her parents John and Emily; her brothers Walter and Bruce; sister in law Arelette; and husband Leslie Stilborn.
An evening visitation was held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services, Swan River, Manitoba on Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service was also held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services on Friday, February 22, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Kathy Highmoor officiating. Interment followed in the Birchwood Cemetery.
