The Dow family is deeply saddened to announce the passing of their mother, Nancy on Sunday, October 27, 2019 in Swan River, Manitoba at the age of 90. She lived with Dementia at the end of her journey and we know she is happy that battle has finally ended.
She is predeceased by her husband Douglas Dow of Swan River; parents Mary and George Thomson; and siblings Peggy, Violet, Daisy, Dolly, Alistair, Jean, Ian and George, all of Scotland, and Elizabeth (Walter) Kirk of Swan River, in-laws John and Marie Dow of Bowsman; brothers in law Elmer Bjornson of Swan River and Ron Sawkins of Kenora Ontario.
Nancy is survived by her sons Ross (Lisa) of Swan River, Blair (Kathy-Jo) and grandchildren Riley and Laura of Calgary; sister Ruby Bjornson of Grandview Manitoba; sister in law Mavis (Don) Johnston of Vancouver Island; nephews and nieces in Canada and Scotland.
Nancy was born (June 23, 1929) and raised in the Grange District, north of Keith, Scotland. She received her formal nursing education in Elgin, Scotland. Along with her sister Ruby they followed their sister Bessie Kirk to the Swan River Valley in 1953. She was able to obtain a nursing job at the Swan Valley Hospital where she worked her entire career. During those years she cared for many local residents of the Valley.
Over the years she enjoyed many rounds of golf in the summer and curling in the winter. As well she enjoyed playing bridge. Nancy was very proud of her grandchildren and enjoyed the many trips out to Calgary to visit.
Her sons are eternally grateful to have had a deeply committed and loving mother. She truly was a wonderful role model for her sons and grandchildren.
We would like to thank the Swan Valley Personal Care Home for their care over the past years.
