Phyllis was predeceased by Victor, her husband of sixty-four years; her parents, Roy and Nellie; her brother, Hubert; and her sister Bea (Bill) Chapin; and great granddaughter, Haven.
Phyllis was born to Roy and Nellie Weidenhamer on July 5, 1919 at her grandparents’ farm near Dand, Manitoba. She attended school at Dand. In 1944 Phyllis married Victor Hodgson. Mom took great pride in developing a beautiful yard at the Chain Lakes farm with many flowers, shrubs and fruit trees being planted. She was always ready to lend a helping hand whenever needed during the busy seasons on the farm such as hauling grain, baling, along with taking meals to the field.
Mom was actively involved in the community. She was a member of the United Church Women for many years, and also taught the preschool Sunday School class while living at Dand. After moving to Hartney in 1976, she became involved with the Hartney Horticultural Society. She loved to help prepare the large floral planters which were proudly place along Main Street each spring. Gardening was one of her enjoyable summer hobbies, along with sewing, quilting, knitting and crocheting during the winter months. Grandma gave each grandchild a handmade quilt; much cherished by each of them. She also very much enjoyed sports, camping, and playing cards; being an avid cribbage player into her 98th year.
Upon moving to Swan River in 2004, Phyllis very much enjoyed the people that she met and the friendships that were made in the Valley. Due to health reasons, she moved to the Swan Valley Lodge in 2011. The family would like to express their gratitude to the Health Care Workers at the Swan Valley Lodge for the excellent care provided.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, July 15, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at the Riverside Cemetery, Hartney, Manitoba.
