Adina Henkelman

With family at her side, Adina Henkelman, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother passed away to her heavenly home on September 30th, 2019.  She was predeceased by her husband Erwin, daughter Grace Sturhahn, son David and infant great granddaughter Charlotte Sturhahn.

Mom will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Jan Khan (Harry), son Lorne (Lesley), son-in-law Richard Sturhahn and daughter-in-law Heidi Henkelman. Nine grandchildren: Patti (Warren), Derek (Angie), Jeff (Kelley), and Scott (Jaclyn) Henkelman; Mark Sturhahn, Stephen (Marti) Sturhahn, Jenny Henkelman, Mark (Sharon) Henkelman, and Ted Dyck. Twenty-one great grandchildren Taylor, Sara and Ali Henkelman, Kash and Emma Henkelman, Matthew and Mason Henkelman, Sawyer, Bennett and Greyson Henkelman, Adi and Theo Henkelman, Andrew, Cason, Tristan, Leah, Anna, Nate, Zoey and Eli Sturhahn and Jemmah Over.  Also surviving are her sisters Elsie Crocker and Leona Seib (Ray) brothers Ervin (Glenys)and Elmer Mincer, sister-in-law Ruth Henkelman, brother-in-law Leonard Kunert and many nieces and nephews.

Mom was born on November 17, 1924 in Poland.  She immigrated to Canada with her parents Albert and Ottilia Mincer and younger sister Lydia in August 1928 and they settled in Minitonas.  Mom attended high school in Minitonas and business school in Winnipeg.  Mom married our dad Erwin Henkelman on July 29, 1944. They farmed in the Minitonas area, in the Swan Valley district and eventually settling on the farm in Kenville.   We have many happy memories growing up on the farm by the swinging bridge and the farm in Kenville.

Family was Mom’s greatest joy.  She was our biggest supporter thru good times and sad times.  She especially cherished the relationship she had with her grandchildren and her great grandchildren. Mom’s faith was strong, she lived it every day. Her faith never waivered when she had to go through some overwhelming sad losses. She showed us how to grow old graciously and gratefully.

Our family wishes to thank Mom’s neighbours for their friendship and for checking in on Mom regularly, thank you to all the Home Care workers for your great care, she considered you friends.  To Dr Mousavi and all the staff at the Swan Valley Health Center, a heartfelt thank you for your kindness and tender care of Mom.

A funeral service was held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services on Tuesday, October 15, 2019 at 11:30 am with Pastor Neal Effa officiating.
