Agnes Grieger
1930 - 2021
On the morning of January 23, 2021, Agnes Sadie Grieger of Swan River, MB, and formerly of Minitonas, MB passed on to her heavenly home.
Agnes was born November 3, 1930 in Leduc, AB to Adam and Lydia Holland. Within a few years, the Holland family moved from Alberta to Manitoba to be closer to family. The Hollands farmed in the Minitonas and Swan River area. Mom attended school in Minitonas, and often commented on those 4 mile walks to school during Manitoba winters! Agnes enjoyed school, however began employment at an early age. Initially, Mom helped her parents on the family farm- yes, Mom was on the tractor helping with field work. After working in the dietary department of the Swan River Hospital, Mom moved to Winnipeg where she was employed by the Blue Ribbon Company. Mom excelled at her jobs as she was a very efficient and productive employee.
It was while working in Winnipeg, that Mom and Dad were introduced through mutual friends. On October 31, 1959 Agnes Holland married Daniel Grieger. Minitonas, MB became home for the young couple, beginning their farming life together.
Mom and Dad were blessed with four daughters- Maureen, Lois, Ellen and Luella. To Mom, family was the greatest treasure on earth. Mom would say-“I love all my girls- I love them all equally”. Mom joyfully worked to provide for her family-cooking delicious meals, baking breads, buns and pies, canning and freezing from her bountiful garden and sewing to keep her family clothed. Mom was always busy and seemed to be most happy when helping others. Agnes so much enjoyed her years working in Home Care, and the clients she served.
Summers involved travel-east to Toronto and later on the annual trip to Kelowna, visiting Agnes’ parents, sisters and their families. This was always a highlight for Mom!
When Agnes was 13 years old, she accepted Christ as her Saviour and Lord. Agnes willingly served as an early years Sunday school teacher and in the Women’s Group in various capacities. Mom sewed teddy bears for so many of her students through the years.
One of Agnes’ great joys was her 4 grandchildren-Kaylee, Sarah, Thomas and Logan. As a Grandmother, she loved them all and treasured the time spent with each of them. Mom was always willing to help out with child care, and she put in many hours! Thanks so much, Mom!
In 2015 as Mom’s health started failing, she made the transition from Minitonas to the Swan Valley Personal Care Home in Swan River. As a family, we are thankful for the staff who cared for Mom through her final difficult years.
Agnes is predeceased by her parents Adam and Lydia Holland, her husband Daniel Grieger, and sisters Erika Jeske and Marian Spitzke. Agnes will be lovingly remembered by her daughters and their families-Maureen(Andrew) Grauman, Lois Grieger, Ellen Grieger and Luella(Darren) Lee; 4 grandchildren Kaylee(Josh) Hollins, Sarah Grauman, Thomas Lee and Logan Lee; sisters Martha Missal, Gladys(Ernie) Kort, and brother Marvin(Grace) Holland, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will take place at a later date due to present Covid 19 restrictions.
