ALBERT BARTEL OBITUARY

1932 - 2024

Albert Bartel passed away August 19, 2024, after a lengthy stay at the Swan Valley Lodge.

He was born on February 12 ,1932 to his parents Gustav and Olga Bartel on NE 12-37-26 in the municipality of Minitonas. It was there he played, worked and grew up with his two younger brothers. The West Favel rural schoolhouse is where Albert received his early education. In 1947 the family relocated to a farm west of Swan River to expand the farming operation, in addition to still farming the Minitonas land.

In his early adulthood years, he decided to venture away from home and work as a carpenter. The first stint away from home landed him in Calgary, Alberta where he worked as a framing carpenter on residential houses and duplexes. After working in Calgary for several years he purchased a farm of his own in the Egilson district west of Swan River. While farming he worked on two more major construction projects, one being the high school in Brandon, MB and the Regional High School in Swan River. Upon completion of these two projects farming became his full-time occupation. He spent countless hours breaking new land, sowing and harvesting crops, and of course putting his carpentry skills to use building new grain bins, sheds and other buildings. He was proud of his accomplishments on the farm and decided to sell to a neighbor and start retirement.

His retirement years were spent in his own home in Swan River until his health failed and was forced to take up residence in the Swan Valley Lodge.

Albert never really had any hobbies but enjoyed watching hockey night in Canada. He would be able to answer any questions about any NHL team in the league. He was always happy when he could talk hockey to someone.

He was predeceased by his parents Gustav and Olga, brothers Alfred and Walter. He leaves to mourn his passing sister-in-law Shirley Bartel, nephews Gary (Laurel), Dan (Ladyne), Derek (Misty), nieces Betty and Judy (Kendal) and families.
