It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Aneta Anne Catherine (Martens) Betcher on December 31, 2023, at the age of 77.
Aneta was born January 7, 1946, in Manitou, Manitoba and spent her early years on a farm outside of Manitou with her 3 sisters and brother. After graduation from high school, Aneta worked at the Ninette Sanitorium before going to Teachers College. She taught at Tolstoi for some years before going to teach in Minitonas in 1972 driving her first new car, a robin egg blue Duster.
Aneta met Harvey at a church meeting at First Baptist Church in Minitonas. He asked her out for coffee immediately following the meeting and she said yes. Harvey and Aneta were married July 6, 1974, and settled into their current home on the farm shortly after.
Aneta had a distinguished career as a teacher, vice-principal and principal doing many extra curricular projects, raising money for the Red Cross with a choir she directed and many other volunteer activities with her classes, all of which earned her a Lt Governor’s Medal. She retired from teaching in 2001.
In the years following her retirement, Aneta and Harvey enjoyed travelling to places such as Palm Springs, Florida, Mexico and Hawaii. Aneta and her sisters enjoyed a Caribbean Cruise in 1999. Harv and Aneta also loved spending a weekend in the summer soaking at Watrous Hot Springs or enjoying the lake boat cruise at Clear Lake.
Aneta enjoyed teaching Sunday school at Temple Baptist Church, assisting in various women’s ministry events, and visiting with the elderly shut-ins. She was involved in the judging of children’s art at the Northwest Round Up and Exhibition. She enjoyed curling, golfing, downhill skiing, aquasize, ceramics, music and playing the accordion. Aneta knew her purpose in life and that was to love. She was passionate about her relationship and love for Jesus Christ. She attended Bible studies, did her own home studies and was a dedicated prayer warrior. She then lived out her love for her Lord by loving other people. Hospital visits, home visits, cards in the mail, phone calls and delivering of food were all ways she showed how much she loved those around her. She stayed in touch with everyone, never missed a birthday and made everyone feel so very special. She always had a smile on her face and was thankful and grateful in every circumstance despite tragedies, surgeries, and health concerns.
Aneta is predeceased by her parents Issac and Aganetha Martens, sisters Dorothy Heinrichs and Rhoda Peters, brother-in-law Bob Peters.
Left to mourn is her husband of 49 years Harvey Betcher, siblings Virginia Wilkins, Bob Martens (Wendy), brother-in-law Randy Heinrichs, her in-laws (remaining Betcher family) and many precious nephews, nieces, and great nephews and nieces.
Aneta, the smile on your face and the love that you shared will always be remembered. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
