Anthon “Tony” Wasylciw
1930 - 2024
Anthon [Tony] Wasylciw of Birch River, Manitoba passed away on May 22, 2024, after reaching the age of 94. After years of failing health, he peacefully died at the Swan Valley Lodge in Swan River, Manitoba with family by his side.
Tony was born on January 24, 1930, to Demetro and Anastasia Wasylciw in Pine River, Manitoba. He was the fourth oldest child of six siblings. He leaves to mourn his one surviving brother Steve Walker [Doreen]. He also leaves to mourn many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
As a young child Tony had to begin life working hard along with his mother and siblings on the family farm due to an accident that fell upon his father. Each sibling in the family had different strengths which meant he learned mechanics, designing equipment, welding, building, and the logging industry along with bringing his knowledge from the family farm of grain farming and raising cattle.
In 1950 Tony followed his brothers and purchased land at Birch River, Manitoba. The family teamwork continued where land was cleared and logs sawed to build their homes, barns, and grain storage bins in hopes to support themselves in getting setup and becoming independent.
Tony loved music, planting a yearly vegetable garden and flowers, maintaining the grass in his yard, and all his dogs. Tony also developed some very true and caring friendships with his neighbors throughout his life.
Tony was a strong, proud, and generous man with a caring heart. His plentiful yearly garden he grew was able to provide produce toward the yearly fundraising fall suppers for the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church. His finished lumber was also donated for improving and maintaining the church. Even though Tony was not a regular attendee of Church he did have faith. Faith that his family would stand by his side through the good and bad times. Faith that his friends would be in good health. And faith in God that his crops and animals would thrive.
Should friends so desire, donations in Tony’s memory may be made to the Crandell Cemetery Box 216 Birch River, MB R0L 0E0.
Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort in that he is watching over us.
