It is with a heavy heart that we announce the peaceful passing of Arnold Giese on February 24, 2021 at his home in Rivers, Manitoba.
Arnold was born on December 12, 1930 in Solanka, Poland. During the challenging times in Europe surrounding the Second World War the family moved several times before Arnold, the first of his family, immigrated to Canada in 1950. After his trans-Atlantic voyage to Quebec, he headed west by train to Barrhead, Alberta where he found work. Arnold was a dedicated and hard worker that took him into British Columbia, as he worked in the timber industry in Valemount, British Columbia. After two years, he was able to help the rest of his family make the journey to Canada.
He married Alice (Redlick) in 1958 and they spent time in Kelowna, British Columbia before moving to Minitonas, Manitoba in 1961. Here they settled on a farm with their growing family. Arnold worked hard on and off the farm before moving into Swan River, Manitoba in 1974 where he took on the role of custodian at Taylor School. He spent over twenty years making that school “shine” before retiring in 1995 and moving to Regina, Saskatchewan. They enjoyed some time with family in Mississauga, Ontario, before settling into Rivers, Manitoba, and small-town life once again in 2017. He loved being in the garden and you would find him at the farm if he were not rocking in his chair.
Arnold is predeceased by his parents Wilhelm and Natalja; eight siblings; and son-in-law. Arnold is survived by his wife Alice; his children Darlene (and Gerald Gourlay) of Rivers, Dorothy (Knights) of Mississauga, Ron (and Shelley Giese) of Red Deer, Alberta, John (and Nancy Giese) of Regina, and Charlene (Giese) of Winnipeg, Manitoba; along with numerous nieces and nephews; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, all of which are honorary pallbearers at his final resting place in Minitonas, Manitoba on March 3, 2021.
In place of flowers Arnold would appreciate donations be made in his name to the charity of your choice. Riverdale Palliative Care played a key role in helping him spend his last days at home surrounded by his loving family.
