Brent MacDuff Obituary

Brent Cameron MacDuff was born on February 7, 1983, to Bruce and Marilyn MacDuff in Vermilion, AB. He was the younger brother of Chris and Cara. He attended St. Jerome’s Catholic School in Vermilion. In 2002, he attended Grant McEwen college in Edmonton taking Police Studies. Brent started training at RCMP depot in Regina, February 2005. His first post in his career took him to Swan River, MB. Brent met his future wife Marissa in 2008 in Swan River, MB. The couple had a long-distance relationship for 2 years while Brent took a posting in God’s Lake Narrows, a fly-in reserve in northern Manitoba. The couple had a quick engagement and were married on Marissa’s family farm Aug. 21, 2010. After the wedding, their next post took them all the way up to Peace River, AB. They enjoyed living close to the mountains and made many great memories hiking and tenting in the summer and skiing in the winter. It was in Peace River that they became pregnant with their first child. In December 2013, Brent accepted a position in the Major Crimes unit in Edmonton, so they were on the move again to St. Albert, AB. Marissa gave birth to Emily Colleen January 29, 2014, and the best day of Brent’s life was the day he became a Dad! Being a Dad came natural to Brent and he embraced it all. The family continued to grow on January 5, 2016, when Eli Cameron arrived. During these chaotic years of little children, Brent never missed a chance to take his family camping. He loved to be outside in nature, always teaching the kids something new.

Brent always wanted to have a big family. He got his wish on April 7, 2019, when their second son Everett Leslie completed the family. Brent accepted a promotion as corporal at the 3-person detachment in Snow Lake, MB. So, with a 1 month old baby, a 3 year old, a 5 year old and of course the dog Scruff MacDuff, the family travelled across the prairies to their next adventure in northern Manitoba! In beautiful Snow Lake, the family enjoyed great fishing, small town living and met many amazing, lifelong friends. It was in this time embracing the slower paced life in Snow Lake that Brent’s issues with PTSD started to catch up to him. He felt it best to end his career with the RCMP after 17 years of service and the family set out on their final adventure, ending where it all began in Swan River, MB! The family settled into their beautiful property on the river and best of all for Brent he finally got his dream of having his own shop for woodworking. Brent called their acreage his “little piece of heaven”.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving children Emily, Eli and Everett, wife Marissa; parents Bruce and Marilyn MacDuff; parents-in-law Kevin and Rhonda Rusk. He was predeceased by his loving grandparents Hilbert and Alice Klinger; Keith and Stella MacDuff.
