Catherine Gray Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Mrs. Catherine Anne Muriel Gray. After a short hospital stay, Cathy passed away on November 8, 2021, to enter God’s Kingdom.

Cathy is survived by her husband Ken and her six children: David (Iris) of Swan River; Garry (Brenda) of Calgary; Judy Linton (David) of Winnipeg; Sharon Gray of Calgary; Colin of Swan River; and Calvin (Cathy) of Victoria, as well as her 10 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She was predeceased by her mother and father and her son-in-law Ken Kerwin.

Catherine Hardy was born in Birmingham, England on March 4, 1936, to her adoring parents, Elaine (Thompkinson) and Arthur Hardy. Despite the difficult economic times in which she was born, as well as having to live with various relatives in the countryside during the war years, Mom always had a sense of humour. Mom (and her parents) emigrated to Canada in 1954 where she attended Normal School in Winnipeg and later took a teaching position at Kenville School.

Cathy and Ken were married on April 7, 1956, in Vancouver. Because of Dad’s job, they resided in various locations in BC until they returned to the family farm in 1960. Through those busy years of raising a family in Kenville, Mom also taught Sunday school, volunteered, curled, returned to teaching for a short time and worked at the Lodge & Personal Care Home as a Recreation Director.

In 1986, Mom & Dad moved from the farm into Swan River where she continued working at the Lodge & Personal Care Home and afterwards participated with local church groups and senior organizations. In 1995, Mom had a serious heart attack but lived an active life otherwise until a debilitating stroke in 2006.

Cathy has a large, blended family where she welcomed everyone into her home. Mom had a soft spot for the less fortunate and vulnerable.
