Catherine Snider
1924 – 2020
On July 31, 2020, Catherine (Katie) Snider of Swan River, Manitoba passed away at the age of 95 years.
Born on November 22, 1924 in the Dunfermline County of Scotland, Catherine and her family moved to the Swan River Valley when she was just three years of age. This is where she would meet Ernest years later, marry on December 12, 1947, and where they would raise their four children.
Being a very nurturing woman, she joined the Swan River Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary, which she was a part of since 1956. With Ernest working in the north, she worked several jobs such as cleaning homes and working as a matron for the RCMP for approximately thirty-five years. Catherine’s nurturing personality translated into her personal life too. Many of her hobbies pertained to the welfare and care of her animals as well as her interests of gardening and flowers. She was always one to ensure the wellbeing of her pets even at the expense of her own.
Catherine is survived by her two children Carolyn Snider and Bert Snider, both of Swan River; two grandchildren Dayson Snider and Jeremy Snider, both of Swan River and daughter in law Lisa Cordileone of Swan River. She was predeceased by her parents John Scott and Isobelle Scott; stepfather Arthur John Giles; sister Anne Snider; sons David and Allan Snider; husband Ernest Snider; and Laura Giles-Sokolowich, Arthur Giles Jr., George Giles, Andrew Giles, and David Giles.
In keeping with Catherine’s wishes, a private graveside service was held on Monday, August 17, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. from the Birchwood Cemetery with Rev. Kathy Highmoor officiating.
If friends so desire, donations in Catherine’s memory may be made to the Swan River Lions Club or to the Swan Valley Animal Protection League.
