Corey Sutherland Obituary

In loving memory of our son, Corey Lee Sutherland, who passed away on June 1st, 2024.

Corey had many friends, some friendships lasting beyond his school years.

Corey had a tremendous interest in computers as it was introduced in the school system.

Besides sports offered in school, he enjoyed many extra curricular activities consisting of snow skiing, snowmobiling, and road hockey at the outdoor rink.

He had a part time job as a newspaper carrier, and work experience at Canadian Tire working in the sports department.

He graduated in June 2000. He went on to work at the Tool Crib for Century Sales at the Syncrude Site. He earned his parts man/warehouse Technician Red Seal Ticket. Corey worked at Syncrude, Cessco, Comco and Suncor.

Our family vacations consisted of hauling our camper to grandma and grandpa’s farm in Fort Kent, Alberta. His grandma had her chickens, horses, and cows. Lots of summers at the other grandparents in Bowsman and Whitefish Lake, swimming lessons, fishing, waterskiing, tubing with his brother and cousins. They spent some time building a fort in a clearcut area where they located a pile of lumber and named it “Fort Skull and Crossbones”. Corey, his brother, and cousins from Ft. McMurray spent a lot of time at his grandma and grandpa Reaburn’s horse lease also building a fort.

Corey cherished his time with his niece and nephew (Peyton and Kaden), boating, seadooing at Whitefish Lake. Corey also enjoyed family vacations to Drumheller, Alberta, Mexico, and family reunions in Alberta.

Many fond memories were made on the Clearwater River, just outside of Fort McMurray, taking the boat, on a hot day and parking on a sand bar. Even the family dog would join in.

As busy as the city was, one could be on a river in a few minutes. Peden’s Point was just a jet boat minutes away, the trail system along the Athabasca River was a favourite of ours to walk with Corey and Bella.

Fishing Lodges were utilized in the winter and summer. Gypsi Lake, Alberta and Kississing Lake on the Father’s Day weekend with his uncles, their sons, his dad, his brother, and grandpa.

Brian’s mom and dad took the whole family to Florida in 1997 for their 40th Wedding Anniversary. It was Corey and Calvin’s first time in a jumbo jet. We visited the Everglades with an air boat. Corey’s graduating year in 2000 we visited with his great aunt and uncle in Largo, Florida, took in Busch gardens, rollercoaster and the beautiful beaches of Clearwater, Florida.

Quadding was another one of Corey’s passions. He and his friends would plan out trips to Six Lakes, Northern Alberta and Crow Lake, Alberta. He would have his lists ready and keep them for his next trips. That’s one thing, Corey was very organized and took care not to forget anything.

He had a special bond with his aunts and uncles, more so with his two aunties (Linda and Lynda) who offered support, emotionally and financial advice.

Corey was predeceased by his two uncles, Marcel and Denis Lauzon, Grandparents Leandre Lauzon, Violet Sutherland, and Robert Reaburn.

Corey was a kind, caring and giving person who always put his needs aside to help friends and family. Time spent with grandparents was a priority-enjoying their company and their stories.

Gone too soon, he will be greatly missed by everyone whose lives he touched.
