A Celebration Honoring the Life of

Craig Mervin Audy

August 26-1972-August 18, 2024

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Craig on August 18, 2024, at the Swan Valley Health Centre at the young age of 51 years.

Craig was born to Tina and Mervin Stevens of Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation on August 26, 1972. He attended Birch River Elementary School, Swan Valley Regional Secondary School and WP Wagner High School in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1998, Craig completed and received a Certificate in Water and Wastewater Management.

Craig was multi talented in many areas, he was a gifted guitar player and loved playing music. He was a talented artist sketching portraits in both pencil and ink. He enjoyed playing hockey and was on hockey teams through school winning several trophies. He was always the first out on the river with his son Glenn by his side, cleaning the snow for community residents to enjoy the game all winter as well. He loved taking Destiny and Glenn on early morning car rides as Mervin did with him as a child looking for deer which would usually end with breakfast in Swan River and if it was an evening ride, ice cream at Dairy Queen. While on these rides, all types of music were reviewed, the kids introduced genres of music into Craig’s life that opened his mind and his heart. Craig loved taking the kids to concerts such as My Chemical Romance, Slayer, Avril Lavign, Feist, Metallica, Megadeth, Black Sabbath and Nickelback.

Craig worked as a volunteer Fire Fighter as well and spent many years as the Water Technician for Wuskwi Sipihk First Nation. He was a Band Councillor for a term and was then elected for the Treaty Land Entitlement Committee where he became chairperson for 4 consecutive back-to-back terms. In this position, he was also appointed to the Board of Directors of the Treaty Land Entitlement Committee of Manitoba Inc. Craig had a passion for politics, keeping traditions and cultures alive and teaching them to his children and his nieces and nephews as well as serving his community.

Craig enjoyed hunting moose, deer and goose and was also a commercial fisherman. He loved playing crib, and he taught his children chess, and they excelled at the game. He enjoyed vacations to Vancouver visiting his in-laws in White Rock, BC as well as Niagara Falls, Ontario. In 2011 we drove down to Wounded Knee Memorial, Crazy Horse Monument, Mount Rushmore, Devil’s Tower Monument, and the Sturgis Bike Rally in South Dakota. In 2009, Craig fulfilled his lifelong dream of skydiving in Steinback, Manitoba.

Craig leaves to mourn his former wife of 18 years and lifelong friend Georgette Audy, children Destiny and Glenn Audy (Angela), 5 grandchildren: Zander, Adonis, Slayter, twins Rhyker and Maizey. His brothers Daniel, Darren, Tyson and sister Lori (special Neestow Sheldon) and numerous nieces and nephews all whom he loved very much.

Craig was predeceased by his mother Tina, father Mervin, sister Karen, brother Derek, his grand parents Malcom and Alice Audy, Joe and Hazel Stevens as well as special nieces Andrea, Clarissa, and Mandy.

A celebration of life will be held at Crandell Cemetery in Birch River, Manitoba on October 13, 2024, at 3pm. Reverend Kathy Highmoor will be officiating, interment will follow where Craig will be laid to rest for eternity in the Audy family plot, his brother Tyson will be the urn bearer.

“Without death, life would have no meaning.”
