Dallas Miller

1989 – 2019

Dallas Neal Howard was born to Howard and Lorelie Miller on November 27, 1989 in Swan River, Manitoba. He died a hero saving the life of a little boy on May 30, 2019 at Madge Lake, Saskatchewan at the age of twenty-nine.

Dallas was a very soft, kind and caring child. He was always concerned about his more adventurous brother and sister. When the children would play church, Dallas always was the song leader, Carlin and Desiree were the congregation. The last time Mom saw his smile was when he was leaving the yard Thursday with the boat. He stopped where she was working outside and said they were going to Madge Lake with their friends. Just like him to leave his work and take time out for friends.

Dallas was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on April 24, 2005 by Minister Jerome Koehn. He loved his Christian life and it is a good memory for me, how often I would find him reading his Bible.

At the tender age of fifteen, he started work for Ron Sorrell Electric. With a lot of hard work and studying just after his twentieth birthday he got his journeyman electrician license.

His volunteer time in Newfoundland and Colorado were very big highlights to him. He had lots of stories to tell about those days.

He was married to me Nicole Koehn on November 4, 2012. God blessed us with six and a half years of a very happy marriage. He always treated me like a queen. He would just do anything to make me happy.

Our little family was complete with our two sons, Carter Ron and Zachary Neal. Dallas loved his boys so much. And it was Zachary’s highest delight that afternoon on the lake to help Daddy drive the boat. “Daddy will you come downstairs and play hockey with me?” was a very common question of Carter’s. And of course, Dallas couldn’t resist. It amazed me how often Dallas would put aside his things to be with the boys; just messing around outside, playing hockey, and taking them with him to the farm when it worked.

He was born and raised a farmer and it ran deep in his blood. He often expressed how much he enjoyed farming and how he dreamed of teaching the boys to farm when they grew up.

Dallas was always a very happy person just looking for the next place he could help out. Just a day or two before he left us, I had told him that it was amazing how every plumber, builder or water clinic guy that had anything to do with our new house seemed to be so chatty; often causing him to get home late for lunch and then I said, “or maybe it’s you that is the chatty one.” He just smiled. But that really was Dallas, always had time to chat with everyone.

Those left behind to miss him are his wife Nicole; two sons Carter, four, and Zachary one and a half; his parents Howard and Lorelie Miller; his brother Carlin and wife Amelia, all of Benito, Manitoba; his sister Desiree and husband Caleb of Elma, Manitoba; father in law Charles Koehn  of Montezuma, Kansas; mother in law Kathleen Flemister of Winton, California; two sister in laws Katlyn and husband Bruce Morales of Bredenbury, Saskatchewan, and Janita and husband Tyler Schmidt of Albany, Oregon; one brother in law Jonathan Koehn and Amber Brasier of Leland, Mississippi; his nephew Xavier Morales; two nieces Talia Morales and Cadence Toews; his second family Ron and Faye Sorrell, Barry and Denise Sorrell of Arran, Saskatchewan; and more family and friends that he would have ever imagined.

He was welcomed to heaven by his grandpa Rudy Miller, and dear friend Norman Iwasiuk.

An evening service was held on Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at 7:00 p.m. from the Swan Valley Mennonite Church. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, June 5, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. from the Swan Valley Mennonite Church with Ministers Dennis Barkman and Lyle Penner officiating. Interment followed in the Riverside-Harlington Cemetery.
