Danielle Spence-Chartrand Obituary

DANIELLE SPENCE-CHARTRAND

March 12, 1992 - August 18, 2023

It is with profound sadness we announce the tragic passing of our beautiful daughter, sister, niece, great-niece, godmother, godchild, aunt, cousin, and friend, Danielle, on August 18, 2023. Danielle leaves to mourn the love of her life, Wayne (Jabber) Brass, her parents Rita Chartrand and Al Spence, brothers Kendall (Lauren) Chartrand and Al Junior (Tatym) Steinberg, sister Lily Chartrand, nephews Hunter, Kendan, Kendall Jr. and niece Lawren Rita Chartrand. Uncles, David (Glorian) Chartrand, Walter (Lyn) Chartrand, Robert Genaille, Jamar (Kelly) Roulette, Larry Spence, Jerry Spence, Aunts, Frances (Charles Sinclair) Chartrand, Bernice Chartrand, Mary St. Paul-Flett, Darlene Spence, Susan (Larry) Spence, Danielle was pre-deceased by her maternal great-grandparents Joseph Chartrand and Albina Genaille, grandparents Martha Chartrand and Gaspard Flett, paternal grandparents Grace and Lloyd Spence, Uncles Elbert and Daniel Chartrand, Aunts Pauline Genaille and Nancy Chartrand, cousins Madison and Sadies Genaille-Chartrand.

Danielle was born on March 12, 1992, and spent her early years in the City of Dauphin, moving to Winnipeg for her junior school years and then to Duck Bay in her late teens. Danielle graduated from Minegoziibe Anishinabe High School in Pine Creek and attended Assiniboine Community College in Dauphin, graduating with her Health Care Aid Certificate. Danielle’s career in the health care field was cut short when she was diagnosed with lupus on September 16, 2012.

Danielle met the love of her life, Jabber in high school and spent the rest of her days with him by her side. You would often see them cruising down PTH 272 going to visit her family in Duck Bay, where they would enjoy driving the backroads on a quad with Baby Kendan. Danielle and Jabber spent their evenings learning the traditional teachings and history of their families/community from their late grandparents, Lena, and Gordon Brass. Danielle utilized her healthcare education caring for family members.

Danielle cared for everyone she crossed paths with. She played an important role in all of her nephews lives and was ecstatic to welcome the birth of her niece, Lawren Rita. Many of her favourite pastimes involved spending time with family, decorating, and prepping for celebrations and holidays. Her favourite highlight during the winter months were stopping in to see her Uncle David in Winnipeg before going to the hockey game to cheer on her Winnipeg Jets. When Danielle attended family gatherings in Ebb & Flow, Sandy Bay, and Portage you would find her laughing with her Uncles Cheeky and Jerry.

Danielle was a proud Red River Métis woman, volunteering her time at our Local, Regional and National celebrations. Danielle’s favourite events included attending MMF Annual General Assemblies and the annual Elders & Youth Conference, where she would serve our Elders with a smile on her face and a twinkle in her eye.

A Wake will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2023, with prayers at 7:00 p.m. at the Duck Bay Community Hall.
