David Bettesworth Obituary

David Wayne Bettesworth

1961 - 2025

Sadly, on November 17, 2025, David Wayne Bettesworth of Swan River, MB, passed away at the age of 64 years after recently being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

Dave was born in Reston, MB, on March 21, 1961. He graduated in 1979 from LP Miller Comprehensive School in Nipawin, SK. It was there he met the love of his life, Mary-Lynn Cindy Dueck, whom he married in 1983. In 1987, son Ryan was born followed by daughter Krysten in 1990. In 2019, grandson Jaxon made Dave the proudest “Pop-pop” in the whole world. His greatest joy in life were his children and grandson.

Dave proudly pursued a career with the RCMP (Reg #37403) in the province of Manitoba with postings in Morris (1982-1986), Grand Rapids (1986-1989), Swan River, (1989-1995), The Pas (1995-2000) and finally back to Swan River (2000-2015), retiring after thirty-three years of service.

He had several hobbies: In the summer, a passion for lawn care, gardening, feeding the finches and chickadees, camping, fishing, golfing, quadding and playing baseball. In the winter, he spent countless hours at the rink coaching and watching hockey, curling, snowmobiling, ice fishing and enjoying warm getaways with family and friends. He also volunteered on several committees and organizations such as Safe Grad, Minor Hockey, Swan Valley Stampeders, Swan River Curling Club and the Swan River Golf & Country Club.

Dave is survived by his loving wife Cindy of forty-three years, son Ryan (grandson Jaxon), daughter Krysten (Jason), brothers Doug (Melody), Kevin (Christine), Kelly (Jennifer),  brother-in-law Leander (Angie), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is predeceased by his parents Ken and Marj Bettesworth and in-laws Henry and Donna Dueck.

Dave’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of everyone who loved and knew him. He was blessed and thankful for his family and having so many great friends. Our family is humbled and grateful for the continued love, support and generosity at this difficult time.

“A life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place.”
