Dennis Kowal Obituary

On October 14, 2021 Mr.  Dennis Kowal of Swan River, Manitoba went to his heavenly home at the age of 70.

Born November 30, 1950 in Grandview, Manitoba. Dennis grew up working on the farm with his siblings and parents. He became a chartered accountant in 1972; never a man to slow down or take it easy, he put immense effort into his work at Pack Kowal Hardie and Company, until the time of his passing. To the last, he wanted to ensure his clients, most of whom became his friends, were taken care of.

He married his cherished Ethel Marek on July 10, 1976 at People’s Bible Church, Minitonas, Manitoba.

They adopted two daughters to complete their family: Taralin in 1982 and Carissa in 1990. He was a “hands on” father and loving husband, taking his family to the lakes to fish, waterski, tube, and build sandcastles; in the winter it was skiing, snowboarding, and skating. Dennis was very involved with the Swan River Figure Skating Club, simply because his family enjoyed it. He purchased male figure skates to try what his girls loved- and ended up with a missing tooth to prove his dedication after loosing a battle with toe picks. Though his love of boating and fishing lasted his whole life, he hung up the skates and decided to enjoy just watching his girls on the ice shortly after.

Dennis was very involved not only in his home church, teaching Sunday school, leading worship and prayer meetings, and even filling in for the minister as needed; he fostered deep roots with many of the communities of faith in the valley. He never hesitated to speak of his faith or have theological debate with anyone and loved to share words of grace and encouragement from his favorite writer, Paul.

He also enjoyed traveling, within Canada from coast to coast, and in later years enjoyed trips to the Caribbean, Orlando, Mexico, and California where he achieved a life long dream of watching the Rose Bowl Parade in person.

Dennis is survived by his daughter Taralin Enns, son-in-law Anthony Enns of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, his sister Darlene Duemo of Dauphin, Manitoba, sister-in-law Lynne Kowal of Selkirk, Manitoba, nieces Tonia Duemo Preece and Shannon McDougall, nephews Barry Stewart Kowal, Robin Kowal, Clayton Strilchuk, Chris Marek, Ryan Marek, and Justin Marek.

He was predeceased by his wife Ethel, daughter Carissa, parents Mike and Jean Kowal, sister Evelyn Kowal and brother Barry Kowal as well as broth-in-laws Ron Marek and Ken Marek.

He lived with passion and will be very missed by a multitude of people whose lives he touched.

“But by the grace of God I am what I am: His grace was bestowed upon me was not found vain, but I laboured more abundantly…. Yet not I but the grace of God within me.” 1 Corinthians 15:10 ERV
