Donald Herbert Crocker passed away peacefully on March 2nd at the Minnedosa PCH at the age of 94. Don was born in Minitonas, MB on the family farm on January 20, 1927 to Herbert George Crocker and Edith Louisa Crocker (Nist).
Don leaves behind Elsie and her 3 kids, their grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Bruce (2011), his sister Freda (2001) and most recently his sister Hilda (2020).
Don worked on his homestead farm until he was able to purchase a small parcel of land which slowly grew with his farming career. He remained on his farm until 2018. When Don wasn’t busy with the work on the farm, he was enjoying the outdoors with his fishing, boating and gardening. Don loved his curling and was a lifetime member of the Minitonas Curling Club.
He loved the outdoors and everything in it. He continued to feed the cats in the barn, the deer and the birds, right up until he left the farm. He even made sure that there was a bag of cat food for the new farm owners.
There will always be fond memories of life on the farm with Don.
He will be missed by many.
And now we will CLOSE THE GATE - By Nancy Kraayenhof
For this one farmer the worries are over, lie down and rest your head,
Your time has been and struggles enough, put the tractor in the shed.
Your labor is done, your home now is heaven; no more must you wait,
Your legacy lives on, your love of the land, and we will close the gate.
