It is with great sadness that the family of Doreen Schure announces her passing on Tuesday, October 4, 2022, at the age of 75 at the Swan Valley Health Centre in Swan River, Manitoba.
Doreen was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba to the late Andrew and Mary Stesenko on April 11, 1947. She grew up in Harlington District on the family farm with her younger brother Larry before moving to Benito, where she attended Benito School. Doreen’s first job was at the Benito Hotel Restaurant where she worked until she moved to Ontario in 1963.
On November 13, 1965, she married her late husband, Eugene Schure, in Toronto, Ontario. In 1967, they moved back to Durban where they raised their two daughters. She began working at the Saan Store before moving on to Bilowus Enterprises, Higgs Stationary, then Extra Foods. After this, Doreen worked as a vital and hard-working employee for the Benito Drugstore where she transitioned through three separate employers within her twenty-four years of dedicated service.
Doreen’s door was always open to family and friends. She enjoyed cooking for others, tending to her garden, and was an avid bingo player. From 1971 – 1994, Doreen and Eugene spent their summers travelled across Manitoba racing chariots and chuckwagons. Doreen was an active member in her community and volunteered many hours as a Benito Legion Member and to the Durban Hall where she served as President on the Board.
Doreen is sadly mourned and deeply missed by her daughters Melody (Ralph) and Janice (Bill), four grandchildren; Melissa, Michael, Tyson, and Megan, and three great-grandsons; Logan, Tuftin, and Lincoln.
She is lovingly remembered by her three sister-in-laws, Gloria Stesenko of Benito, Manitoba, Anne Schure of Benito, Manitoba and Loraine of Swan River, Manitoba and her brother-in-law, Ernie Schure of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Uncle Walter Stesenko of Swan River, Manitoba and Aunty Marion Krochak of Pelly, Saskatchewan. As well as many nieces, nephews, and great friends that were also very dear to Doreen.
