Doreen J. Schuweiler
1928 -2026
Doreen June Isabel Schuweiler passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, at Swan Valley Lodge in Swan River, Manitoba, at the age of 97 years.
Doreen was born on June 2, 1928, in Bowsman, Manitoba, to Nettie June (Nickle) Rose and William Young Rose. In 1933, she moved with her family to Swan River, where her father worked for the C.N.R. until 1946. Doreen attended Swan River School and built a life rooted deeply in the community she loved.
On November 26, 1947, Doreen married the love of her life, Ron. Together they shared a long and happy marriage filled with love, laughter, and many cherished memories.
Doreen worked for Tom Seto in his butcher shop for thirteen years before beginning a long career with Dunc Williamson at the drug store, later Whites Drug Store, where she worked faithfully for thirty-four years. She retired in 1994 and embraced retirement with the same dedication she brought to every part of her life.
Doreen and Ron enjoyed many wonderful years camping, fishing, and boating together. In 1970 they purchased a trailer and camped at Madge Lake and later bought a cabin there in 1975, creating countless treasured family memories. After Ron’s health declined and the cabin was sold, they later found joy again at Wellman Lake, where they purchased another cabin in 2000 and continued making memories until 2005.
Family, home, and simple pleasures brought Doreen her greatest happiness. She loved gardening, cooking, baking, travelling, going out to the farm, and always enjoyed welcoming family and friends with warmth and kindness. She especially treasured the time spent relaxing with loved ones and celebrating life’s special moments.
In 2012, Doreen and Ron celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary — a remarkable milestone and a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
Doreen was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Elsie Dubreuil (1923–2011) and Jean Rose (1934–1976); and by her beloved husband, Ron (1921-2017).
She will be lovingly remembered for her lively spirit, caring heart, strong work ethic, sense of humor and the love she shared so freely with family and friends.
