Doug Wagner Obituary

After a brief battle with cancer and with his family by his side, Douglas Ervin Wagner passed away on July 18, 2021 at the Swan Valley Health Centre at the age of 78.

Left to cherish his precious memory are his daughter Gale, son Trevor, granddaughters Catlyn (Jeremy), Cortny and Jordyn (Jordan), grandson Travis, great grandsons Aiden, Bentley, Cruz and Dayson, sister Lily Conway and brothers Tony and George (Sharon) Wagner.

Doug was born on May 22, 1943 at the Swan River Hospital. He was the youngest of 6 children born to Lydia and Bill Wagner. Doug attended school in Minitonas. Doug started his working career as the town milkman at a very young age.

On July 31, 1965, Doug married the love of his life Anna Wozniczka. They were blessed with 3 children, Gale, Dwayne and Trevor.

Throughout his working years he had many jobs: Johnston Ventures, Gulf & Co-op Implements. After a brief move to Langenburg, SK, they moved back to Minitonas where Doug was the caretaker of the Minitonas Arena, foreman for the Town of Minitonas and then employed by Manitoba Conservation at Wellman Lake until his retirement. Doug served 3 terms as councilor for the Town/Municipality of Minitonas-Bowsman.

Dad, Mom, Walter and Mary, Lily and Charles and all the kids spent most summer weekends at the family cottage at Wellman Lake. Dad and Mom participated in the annual Relay for Life in Swan River. They proudly walked the Survivors Lap hand in hand.

After Mom’s passing Dad took on the role of pickling, baking and cooking Sunday family suppers. He took great pride in his garden and yard work. It didn’t matter what broke, needed fixing, installing or building, Dad could do it. He was a jack of all trades.

Dad was pre-deceased by his wife of 48 years Anna, son Dwayne, parents Bill and Lydia, brothers Walter and Art, in-laws John and Joanna Wozniczka, Charles Conway Sr., Mary Wagner, Marilyn Wagner, Adam Chess, Carrie and Harold Nash, Mike and Ellen Wozniczka, John and Margaret Wozniczka and Joan Wozniczka.

A memorial service was held at the Minitonas Cemetery on July 24, 2021 at 2 pm with Reverend Kathy Highmoor officiating.

Urn Bearers were Doug’s children Gale and Trevor. Honorary Urn Bearers were his granddaughters Catlyn, Cortny and Jordyn.
