Edith Playford
1929 - 2020
On February 7, 2020 the Playford family celebrated the life of their beloved mother Edith B. Playford. A memorial service was held at the Birch River Legion Hall and officiated by her son-in-law Sylvain Bienvenue, minister in the Jehovah’s Witness faith.
Edith was a long time resident of Birch River and her family well known in the community. She was born in Stockholm Sk in 1929, but was raised in the Dauphin area. There she met the love of her life Jim Playford. They raised their large family in Port Colburne ON and in Cranberry Portage MB. After the heart breaking loss of her beloved husband she later married Ralph Paquin and added two more daughters to her family. Edith ended up raising most of her nine children by herself. She taught her children to be self sufficient and hard workers by example.
She kept her own home until her cruel illness prevented her from doing so at the age of 90. This illness finally took her life on February 3, 2020.
She leaves behind to mourn her her nine children: Garnet, Linda Nadeau, Don, Sandy Behrmann, Darrell, Ray, Jamie Wasylciw, Lisa Bienvenue and Lorri Paquin as well as their respective families including 17 grand children and 23 great grand children.
Edith was a member of the Swan River congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. It was her firm conviction that her God will one day resurrect her to enjoy life again on Earth. She will regain her youth, be reunited with her loved ones and enjoy eternal life as her God had always intended. Her God Jehovah’s love for his people does not cease when they die. He keeps such ones in his memory and he will restore them to life in the righteous new world to come.
The Playford family would like to thank some extraordinary members of the nursing staff, the health care aids and the cleaning staff of the Palliative Care Unit. During the last month of their mothers life, while her daughters never left her side, these wonderful people made a wholly unbearable situation bearable by their kindness and compassion. You know who you are, thank you. In her last weeks we laughed together and now we cry together. She is worth every tear.
