Elizabeth Leskevich Obituary

Elizabeth Leskevich passed on to our loving Lord on Sunday January 1, 2023.

Elizabeth was born on November 17, 1922 and had resided at the Swan Valley Lodge for the past 18 months.

Her parents were Sabastian and Katherine Leskevich that arrived from Poland with their three oldest children and settled in Alpine district in 1929. Elizabeth was a great help to her mother in the early years with the household and all the small siblings while her mother helped her father clear and work the land. Elizabeth was the second oldest of 10 siblings.

In Elizabeth’s early years, she showed great talent in sewing. As a young girl she sewed wedding gowns for her friends. The talent in designing and sewing led her to study and achieve a diploma in Fashion Designing. In Vancouver, this interest led to management at Original Blouse Factory. Her move to Toronto prompted a career change, where she was employed with Facelle. Here Elizabeth worked her way up from shiftwork research and development into senior quality analyst.

Elizabeth was also gifted with the talent of music from an early age. This was evident when she taught her siblings to sing in harmony around the organ. She led the choir in the Russian-Ukrainian Evangelical Church at Benito for several years. She also conducted a choir at the Slavik Evangelical Baptist Church in Toronto. Elizabeth spent long hours sorting through music and bible verses to create and arrange an Easter and Christmas Contata for the choir she conducted. Her interest in church music has enhanced a great part of joy in her life.

Elizabeth devoted her whole life to her strong faith in God. This led to many charitable causes and works with the church.

Elizabeth was devoted to her family, and always kept in touch regularly with her parents and siblings. If any help was needed, she made herself available.

After many years of retirement, she moved to Swan River, Manitoba in 2011. She enjoyed attending bible study at the Heritage manor and services at the Temple Baptist Church. She also enjoyed shopping and going for walks.

Elizabeth is survived by her three sisters: Anne and Diane of Napa, California, Ida (Ed) of Swan River, Manitoba and one brother: John of Benito, Manitoba. Auntie Elizabeth was treasured by her niece: Angie (Merlin) Bartel of Benito, Manitoba, and all the nephews: Greg (Gail) Gorchynyski of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Jeffery (Nerissa) Gorchynski of Swan River, Manitoba, Trevor (Wendy) Gorchynski of Calgary, Alberta, Jeffery Leskevich of Hamilton, Ontario, and step nephew: Scott Jenson of Napa, California. Elizabeth was also cherished by her great nieces and nephews and by numerous great great nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was predeceased by her parents: Katherine and Sebastian Leskevich, brothers: William, Paul, and Nick, an infant girl, and a premature baby.
