Elsie Lylyk
1925 – 2019
On July 30, 2019 another angel was added to Heaven as we said goodbye to our dearly beloved Elsie Lylyk at the age of 94.
Elsie was born to Karl and Annie Stychyshyn in the Kobzar area of Saskatchewan. She was born on February 28, 1925. She was the oldest out of seven children. Elsie met William Lylyk while watering horses. It was love at first sight. They were soon married on October 25, 1942 and raised nine children on the family farm: Paul Lylyk, Emily Wilson (Bob Grieder), Rose Stenberg (Del), Shirley Craig (Jim), Ken Lylyk, Kathy Lylyk, Lawrence Lylyk, Lorraine Lylyk, Carol Peterson (Rick). She was predeceased by her husband William, son Paul, son-in-law Del, grandson Edward Craig, great grandson Colten Wilson, and brothers; Dmetro, Mike, Danny, and Metro. She is survived by her other eight children, eleven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, two sisters; Violet Huska (Walter), Ida Dunetz (Bill), sister-in-law Kathy Stychyshyn, and many nieces and nephews.
Elsie was a warm hearted, hard working, generous woman with a passion to tell stories about her family to anyone that came through her door. Her company was always greeted with a hug and a kiss and never left empty handed as there were always leftovers, treats or care packages of some sort to be given away.
Elsie truly had a heart of gold and loved everyone even through their flaws. She never complained and was always happy. She constantly put others needs ahead of her own, especially her children’s, knitting socks and mitts to keep them warm and making them unique quilts to suit their personalities. Elsie was a very thoughtful woman. If any concerns were brought to her attention, especially about the health and well being of her friends and family, she made sure to pray on her rosary specifically for that concern and faithfully never missed an evening.
During her later years she would enjoy watching T.V, especially The Bold and the Beautiful. If you called her when her story was on you would receive an earful and have to call back. After many years of living on the family farm in the RM of St. Phillips, she would make the move to Swan River to spend her remaining years in the personal care home where she enjoyed the stay very much. She participated in the activities (exercises, bingo, hymn sing) until her last day. She was a hoot to be around and everyone loved being with her and visiting.
Elsie will be greatly missed and loved forever.
