Ernest Yaschyshyn Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear brother, uncle, and great-uncle, Ernie Nicholas Yaschyshyn.

Ernie was born in Swan River, Manitoba on December 28, 1956 to Nick and Lena Yaschyshyn.  Ernie was the first child born to a family of 2 children.

He attended Swan Valley Country school from Grades 1 to 4 and then was bused to the town of Swan River to attend Grade 5 to Grade 8 in Duncan School.  Ernie attended Swan River Collegiate for Grade 9 and then Grades 10 to 12 were spent at the Swan Valley Regional Secondary School.

Ernie loved the rodeo and in 1982 attended a weekend Rodeo School with his High School buddies in Minnedosa Manitoba.  In his earlier years he was also a Director of the Swan River Agricultural Society.

Ernie’s various jobs included Department of Highways and the Liquor Store in Swan River.  His major role was on the family farm helping dad as much as possible milking cows, haying, etc. A lot of times were spent riding horses with his school buddies.  Ernie always wanted to be a PMU farmer and his dream became a reality.  He worked so hard but never complained,  as he loved working with horses so much.  Mom and Dad were always by his side to help in any way that they could until their passing.  After his PMU contract was terminated, he continued to cattle farm until his retirement.  He sold the majority of his horses but kept some favorites.

Ernie continued to enjoy the outdoors and would spend the majority of his summers trail riding to various trails in Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta.  Further travels included Barbados, Hawaii, Las Vegas and Cuba. He loved to show us his pictures of each trip and we were so happy to hear his stories.

Ernie is survived by his sister Barb (Bowles) and brother-in-law, Gord, niece, Pamela, nephew, Scott (Lyndsay), and great-niece and great-nephew, Millie and Jake and his best furry friend, Roxy his collie pup.

Also left to mourn are extended family members and friends.  He was predeceased by his father Nick, mother Lena, Aunts and Uncles.

Cremation has taken place.  In keeping with Ernie’s wishes, a private family graveside service will be held at the Birchwood Cemetery in Swan River at a later date.

If friends so desire, memorial donations in Ernie’s memory may be made to the Swan Valley Animal Protection League Box 2735 Swan River, MB R0L 1Z0

“Although he had no children of his own, he loved his niece and nephew dearly. He attended all the big events throughout their childhood and to them he was not just an uncle, he was “Uncle.”

                     For My Big Brother

You showed me a lot of things,

I learned a lot I didn’t know,

But you forgot to teach me one last thing

How to let you go,

I know you didn’t mean to leave me,

Sometimes we have no choice,

I miss being your little sister,

Hearing my name called by your voice,

I wish I got to say “I Love You”

Before you were given to the sky,

If God could grant me one last wish

I’d ask to say “Goodbye”

You always meant a lot to me,

I could never love you less,

I know It’s True when They Say,

“HE ONLY TAKES THE BEST”

I will love you forever

Love Your Little Sis, Barb
