Fay Foster Obituary

Fay Lorine Foster

1938 - 2025

Fay Lorine Foster was born on July 11,1938 to Ernest and Bertha Ray in Swan River, MB.  Fay was the eldest child of a family of 12, 6 boys and 6 girls.  Fay left home at a young age and started working at the Benito Hospital.

Fay married Dawson Foster on July 28, 1957.  While raising her family of five, Fay continued to work at the Swan River Lodge until her retirement in 1996.

Fay was always so proud of her family, her children, grandchild and her great-grandchildren brought an extra sparkle to her eye.  Fay had many hobbies.  She loved to make the most beautiful quilts, each stitch either done by hand or machine was done to perfection.  She loved to do puzzles, each one bigger and harder than the last.  Many hours were spent at the puzzle table with either Dawson, her grand kids or anyone else trying to find that one piece to make it all fit together.  Fay loved to be out with friends either for coffee or an evening of playing Bingo.  We all loved to hear about the couple of bucks $$ either her or Dawson had won.  Many hours were spent in the garden with Dawson, which produced enough for those Sunday dinners where no one went hungry, no matter if she was feeding just the two of them or the crew that showed up, the pot of potatoes or chili just got bigger.  Fay was always so proud of her lilies, each color more vibrant than the next.  Fay was a Lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Big Woody Women’s Institute.  The last few years her evenings were spent driving around the valley, watching the herds of elk and deer and talking about the old farm steads that once stood on that land.  On Sunday’s or those warm summer evenings, Dawson with the request from Fay, would hook up the team of horses, Candy and Danny and tour the Big Woody back roads.  Everyone looked forward to the time spent riding and even the opportunity to hold the reins and drive the team.

Fay leaves to mourn her husband of 67 years, Dawson, children Trent (Keira) Foster, Dale (Rachelle) Foster, Tracey (Stephen) Holodniuk and Curtis (Karmelle) Foster, grandchildren Melanie, Kendra (Laime), Scott (Shelby), Melissa (Chris), Jordy, Jared (Catherine), Chayce, Justin (Robyn), Kolby (Amanda), Callie (Nick), Doug (Morgan), Troy (Paige), Brooke (Cole) along with 11 great-grandchildren.  Sisters Edwina Lambert, Elizabeth (Wayne) Armistead and Elaine (Carman) Currah and brother Gordon (Bonnie) Ray along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Fay is pre-deceased by her daughter Diane Foster, brothers Sheldon Ray, Robert Ray, Randy Ray, Terry Ray, Ken Ray, sisters Florence Foster and Jean Hogg.

If friends so desire, memorial donations in memory of Fay may be made to the Big Woody Community Centre, c/o Glen Eggie, RR#1 Comp 33, Swan River, MB R0L 1Z0.
