Garth Edward Martin

On January 3, 2023, Mr. Garth Martin of Winnipeg, formerly of Benito, Manitoba passed away at
the age of 78 years.

Garth was a teacher for many years, spending the majority of his career in the Swan Valley area
as a high school teacher and finally as an adult educator.

Garth enjoyed many hours creating and maintaining a haven on his acreage near Benito. He
enjoyed many different hobbies, including woodworking, gardening, and photography.
Initially with his wife and then his children, he loved to plan and travel to various locations. He
continued to travel with his wife following his retirement. He had a particular affinity for the west
coast of Canada.

Garth and Judith lived a life full of shared experiences, with their share of challenges and
rewards. These were always tempered by Dad’s sense of humor and wit. Most will remember
his infectious smile and the sound of his laughter. He was a loving, caring husband whose
romantic side, though often hidden, was cherished by his wife.
An only child, Garth wanted to have a large family. His legacy became his four sons. Garth was
a key figure in the lives of his children and passed along many important skills and values that
are part of their lives to this day.

He was also a true friend to many people over the course of his lifetime, standing with them in
times of need. Often, he could be seen providing a listening ear to someone or helping in
practical ways, like mowing their lawn.

His faith in Jesus and his love for the Word of God was central to his life, which served as an example of that faith.

Garth is survived by his loving wife Judith and 4 children: Jonathan (Amanda) Martin of
Winnipeg, David (Kristen) Martin of Winnipeg, Daniel (Melissa) Martin of Brandon, Stephen
(Janelle) Martin of Chilliwack, and 10 grandchildren: Alistair, Keira, Emily, Phoenix, Thor,
Charlotte, Kaeden, Kyler, Olivia, and Sienna.

He was predeceased by his parents Gilbert and Phyllis Martin.
