Garvin Schabert
June 22, 1929 – May 3, 2022
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother- in- law, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Garvin passed away on May 3, 2022, at the Swan Valley Lodge at the age of 92 years.
Dad was born in Lockwood, Saskatchewan on June 22, 1929, to John and Emma Schabert. The family moved to Minitonas, Manitoba in 1931, along with sister Linda Jackson where grandpa Schabert owned a general store. It was there that dad met the love of his life Irene Patzer. They married on October 17, 1951 and had 3 children.
Left to mourn are children, Donna (Ed) Friesen of Belair, MB, Linda Schabert of Swan River, MB, and John (Louise) Schabert of Benito, MB, grandchildren Danielle (Maurice) Mill of Montreal, Que, Kelly (Robert) McLain of Dallas, Texas, Sara Schabert of Sao Paulo, Brazil, Erika (Chip) Knee of Toronto, ON, Marcie Schabert of Saskatoon, SK and Johnny Schabert of Benito, MB,

Also left to mourn are sisters and brothers in law Lydia and Alec Betcher of Winnipeg, MB, Gladys Kaufman of Winnipeg, MB, Evelyn Kruschel of Okotoks, AB, Trudy Patzer of Winnipeg, Mb as well as other family around the globe.
Dad was predeceased by his loving wife of 64 years Irene on December 29, 2015, parents, sister, in laws, brother in laws, sister in laws, nephews and many friends.
When Dad eventually went into the work force, he got a job with the Municipality of Minitonas as a dozer operator and then on the grader. He helped build roads up at The Pas, by Cowan and Swan River. “The Grader Man” loved his job and worked long hours. He even managed to get Mom up in the grader. He worked for the Municipality for 41 years. Dad worked for Bill and Blaine Hart in the evenings and weekends with combining and cultivating, and in later years helped out on the Sandborn farm with John and Dorian.
Dad really loved his Toronto Maple Leafs from day one. Hoping to see one more Stanley Cup, maybe this year.
Dad and Mom loved to travel, especially if Lydia and Alec went with them, from Manitoba to Texas to Yellowknife to Hawaii and western Canada.
Mom and Dad moved into a condo in Swan River in 2004 to take life easier. Dad loved to go for coffee with his friends from Swan River and Minitonas. When Mom passed, he was lonely, he missed her so much. His health started to decline after a fall last August and ended in hospital and eventually the lodge.
We love and miss you. Knowing you are in heaven with Mom makes it easier.
