Gordon Hardy Obituary

Gordon Hardy

1974 - 2018

This is the story of Gordon Dennis Hardy. Gord was a kind-hearted, generous and fun-loving guy that was loved, is missed and will always be cherished. Our “Gord”, “Gordo”, “Tater”, “Kramer” was an amazing husband, doting father, loving son, brother, uncle and one of a kind friend to many.

Gord’s story starts on March 30, 1974, the baby of Myrna and Dennis Hardy and forever picked on by his older sisters Dawna and Lori (or perhaps it was the other way around). Gord would spend his childhood,  making many lifelong friends while going to school in Swan River, Manitoba – the same place he chose to grow into an adult, start a business  and build a family.

While Gord may have been small in stature, he made up for this in spades with his quick reflexes and competitive nature. As a child, he was an exceptional hockey player, baseball player and somehow earned a spot on the senior volleyball team.  In junior high, Gord hit the curling ice for the first time and it was not long after that he was making triples and telling you “Now that’s how it’s done!” Gord’s curling career reached the ultimate in 2004 when he and his team won the Manitoba Safeway Select and wore the buffalos at the Brier in Saskatoon.

Gord and Liza fell in love in 2005 and Gord officially gave up his bachelor status in September of 2008 when he proposed to Liza at the top of the Empire State Building in New York City. They were hitched July 4, 2009 - Gord was never more happy and proud than on the day he married Liza.

Gord’s life was forever changed when he became a father. In 2012 Mason was born and their family was completed in 2015 with the birth of Alexa. Gord’s heart was so full of love for his children.

Gord was an avid golfer, curler and snowmobiler. He was a familiar face at all community events always flashing that infectious grin and unique laugh.  Gord, Liza and the kids loved spending the summer at Wellman Lake in the Duck Mountains camping together, spending time on the lake and in the campground with their close friends.  Gord was a guy that was always there whenever you needed him – his circle of friends was large yet deep with connections to many near and far.  His family came first but he was always there to lend a hand when his “sore back” allowed it.

Loved ones that cleared the path for Gord include his grandparents, father Dennis Hardy, nephew Curtis Griffith, Aunt Linda Owen, Uncle Les Hardy, Uncle Barry Hardy and brother in law Mark McFadden.

Loved ones that will miss Gord until they meet again are his wife Liza, son Mason (five), daughter Alexa (two), mother Myrna Hardy, sister Dawna Griffith (Don), nephews Andrew and Devon, sister Lori Lyburn (Allan) and niece Jordyn as well as mother and father in law Liz and Sinclair Oag, sisters in law Christine McFadden, Helen Oag-Ganci (Sebastian), Amanda Oag, brother in law Will Oag and their families.  Along with Uncle Jim Owen (Clarice), Aunt Lynda Hardy, Aunt Lois Hardy, Aunt Kathy Hardy and many cousins and cherished friends.

Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened –    Dr. Suess

We’ll miss you Gordo!
