HAZEL HOROCHUK (nee Kastrukoff)

1931 - 2025

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved Mother Hazel Horochuk on November 22, 2025.

Mom is survived and lovingly remembered by her 7 children Sharon (Lloyd Posnikoff), Dolores (Gene Kereluik), Wayne (Carla), Marilyn (Larry Broome), Brent (Cheryl), Lorna (John Twilley), Glenda, as well as 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband of Bill of 71 years (2021), her son Gordon (1955), her mother Annie (1955) her father Samuel (1972), as well as her brothers Sam, Steve, Bill and her sisters Alice and Mary.

Hazel was born in Benito on February 23, 1931, the third child of Sam and Annie Kastrukoff. She married her one true love Bill on November 26, 1950.

Mom cherished and devoted her life to Bill and to raising her children. Her hobbies included sewing, gardening, baking as well as reading, classic movies and dining out. Her children and grandchildren fondly remember her homemade cinnamon buns and hearty borscht.

Mom was able to enjoy her independence until the last six months of her life, where she then resided at the personal care home.

In keeping with Mom’s wishes, a private celebration of her life was held. She was laid to rest next to her loving husband at Birchwood Cemetery.
