On November 3, 2021 Mrs Helen Hrycenko of Benito Mb and formerly of Arran,
Sk passed away at the age of 93 years.
Helen is survived by 2 children: Pat Lyons of Benito, Natalie Baluk of Edmonton Ab
and her daughter in law: Debbie Hrycenko of Arran Sk. as well as 8 Grandchildren
and 8 Great Grandchildren.
Helen was predeceased by her mother in 1970, father in 1975, Sister Olga Nemitz
in 1990, Brother Russell Bodnar in 2004, her Husband John Hrycenko in 2008 and
son Donny in 2018.
Helen was born January 7, 1928 in Snovich, Ukraine to William and Anna
Bodnar. At the age of 10, together with her parents, brother Russell and sister Olga,
came to Canada and settled in Glaslyn, Saskatchewan. In 1944 the family moved to
Benito and Helen attended Bearshead School and spent 2 years at Sacred Heart in
Yorkton.
In July 1951 Helen married John Hrycenko and moved to the farm just east of
Arran. They had 3 children, Pat Lyons (Tom) of Benito, Donny Hrycenko (Debbie)
of Arran and Natalie Baluk (Dan) of Edmonton.
Helen was the Postmaster in Arran for 27 years as well as being very active with
the Catholic Church and the Sunshine Center.
Around 1980 John and Helen built a new home in Arran and Donny and Debbie
took over the farming. Helen retired in 1989.
In 2009, Helen left Arran and moved to Park Place in Canora Sask. For 11 years. In
2020 Helen moved to Benito where she stayed with her daughter Pat for 6 months
before getting her own place at Thunderhill Courts in Benito.
Helen was a great family person and loved having all the kids and her nephews
around. Her greatest treasures were her children and grandchildren.
A private family service was held, and Helen was laid to rest beside her husband John
at the St. John The Baptist Cemetery, Arran, Saskatchewan.
