Henry Melvin Stubbs passed away Saturday, March 8, 2025 at the age of 86 Years. His passing was as gentle as his life, leaving us while holding hands with sister Dorothy and brother Lorern.
Henry was born on December 18, 1938 in Bowsman, MB into a large family of 8 girls and 7 boys to Charlie and Sarah Stubbs.
Henry was special needs and spent nearly his entire life in care facilities. He first lived in Portage la Prairie and then for several years at the Pelican Lake Home. Upon its closing he was transferred to Swan River, living in a group home. For the past 19 years he resided contentedly at the Swan Valley Lodge where he received excellent care.
Henry’s needs were simple, delighting in outings with Zane Sakal and Darrel Balenger, always ending with pie and hot chocolate at The Timberland. Much joy came from anticipating and receiving small gifts during celebrations.
Henry also spent countless happy hours listening to country music, strumming his guitar or doing jigsaw puzzles.
Henry was predeceased by 8 siblings but leaves to mourn his passing five sisters, Muriel Ovestrud of Victoria, Dorothy Shaw (Malcolm) and Margaret Oberlin of Swan River, Emily Currie of Prince George, Phyllis Stubbs and one brother Lorern (Aly) of Duncan, BC along with many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at the Bowsman Cemetery at a later date with a tea to follow.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the staff of the Swan Valley Lodge for their care and dedication.
Thank you also to Dr. Ola for respecting and supporting our final wishes
