It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend on Friday, March 7th, 2025 at the age of 87 at the Swan Valley Health Centre.
Hermann was born in Wangen, Switzerland on April 30th, 1937. He was the second of five children born to Hermann and Agnes Müller and grew up on a family farm in Kaltbrunn during the hard years of the second world war.
After completing his schooling he pursued a career as a butcher, which he practiced with great passion throughout his life. While employed in the Swiss Mountains of Grisons he met Margrit Ragettli, whom he married in 1961. They were blessed with five children; Manuela, Karin, Corina, Martin and Jürg. Together they successfully ran their own butcher shop for 20 years in Schmerikon, Switzerland. In 1984, they fulfilled their dream of immigrating to Canada and moved to Swan River, Manitoba with their family. Hermann joined Valley Meat Packers as a partner of the late Peter Schellenbaum, and in 1987, he became the sole owner of the business. He had a gift for running a successful business and managed the plant with commitment, hard work, and dedication, serving the valley until 2003, when his children Corina, Martin, and Jürg purchased the business. Even though he was retired, you could still find him working at the abattoir every day.
Hermann had two homes - Switzerland and Canada, where he was admired by many. He loved a good handshake, cup of coffee, cigar and great conversation. Hermann enjoyed playing cards, pingpong and foosball. He was a singer, traveller and storyteller and he cherished his time with family and friends. He had hoped to be a part of Keenan and Sara’s wedding in Mexico this January, however, he was unable to attend due to his health.
Hermann will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife Margrit, daughters Manuela (Guido), Karin (Thomas), Corina (Ken) and sons Martin and Jürg, grandchildren Samuel, Julian, Alea, Madlaina (Dominik), Ursin, Laura, Andri, Kyle (Jensen), Jessica, Kenzie, Joshua and Keenan (Sara) and great grandchildren Sawyer and Filipa, brothers Ernst (Anne) and Sepp (Yvonne), sister in law Martina, and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his father Hermann, mother Agnes, mother in law Anna-Margreth, father in law Georg, sisters Melanie and Agnes, brothers in law Gusti, Gion and Paul and nephew Gian.
