Ida Lachance Obituary

Ida Lachance

1935 - 2021

Most of us here today were lucky enough to know Grandma our entire lives. We all had a special and unique relationship with her.

Grandma was born March 23, 1935 on a farm near San Clara, Manitoba. She left the farm at a young age and worked many jobs. Mostly waitressing, its what she loved.   Lori and I spend many summers with her when she worked for Stadnicks Logging. Gramma would always let us help in the kitchen, but we always had to be quiet at 1:00 when her story (All My Children) came on! We played so many games of rummy with her and sometimes she even let us win! She loved having us for company and we loved going.

She married Grandpa October 6, 1953 at the Roman Catholic Church in San Clara. They lived in numerous places. Often travelling for Grandpa’s work. Together they raised six kids and eventually settled down in Swan River, Manitoba.

After Grandpa died in 1995, Grandma never slowed down. She looked after herself until the end. She was so passionate about the things she loved, gardening, baking, bingo, and of course the watching the weather channel.

She loved to play cards with her friends. Often times it would be midnight and I’d give up trying to call on a Saturday night. The next day I’d hear she was playing cards til 5:00 a.m., or at a dance at the Legion.

She never really sat still. You’d find her at the Quik Stop cleaning off tables or pouring coffee instead of sitting with her friends.

What an amazing lady she was.  So loved by all of us, her neighbours, her friends and her beloved Shadow.

Grandma lived her life to the fullest, and exactly how she wanted.

Nobody was ready to say goodbye to you yet and you will leave an emptiness in our hearts. But we will embrace the lessons you’ve taught us, and we will cherish the memories we have with you. Thank you for loving us and we will meet again someday.
