James Parsons Obituary

James Wilfred “Jimmy” Parsons, the much-loved husband, dad, grandpa, and friend to all, passed away in the Dauphin Hospital on February 24, 2024, at the age of 84 years.

Jimmy was born June 30, 1939, a second son to Melvin and Ethel Parsons. Jimmy joined his older brother Murray, then on April 13, 1946, a younger brother Kenneth completed the family.

At an early age Jimmy became ill with Scarlet Fever. This illness caused him to have health problems for the rest of his life.

He grew up on the family farm spending many hours playing with two neighbours, Tony and Eddy Holomay and his brother Murray.

Jimmy spent a happy childhood going to school in Bowsman, playing hockey, football, curling and in the summer days swimming in the Woody River.

When he completed his school years he decided to go to Winnipeg and take a radio and television repair course. When he had this course completed, he decided to go north and find work where he could make good money. The mine at Thompson was just being started so Jimmy found work.

Jimmy soon found his health was going to be a life problem, but he was determined to find work he could handle. He asked about joining his dad and his older brother Murray on the farm. Murray and their dad held a meeting but decided there just was not enough work for three people, what should they do. Murray decided he would find work off the farm and Jimmy could take his place on the farm.

Jimmy then joined his dad and mother farming. Then on May 15, 1969, Ethel Parsons lost a long battle with cancer. Jimmy and his dad batched at the farm home.

Then on April 19, 1976, there was a big change at the Parsons family farm. Jimmy married the love of his life, Tina Elsie Shingoose. Melvin then moved to Swan River and Jimmy and Tina took over the family home.

Jimmy is survived by his wife Tina, two sons, Lance Travis born on September 6, 1976, and Joshua Lee born on June 9, 1979, brothers Kenneth Parsons and Murray Parsons and eight grandchildren.

In keeping with Jimmy’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date.

Should friends so desire, memorial donations in Jimmy’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
