Jean Matwee Obituary

Jean Matwee

1939 -2020

Jean was the first born to Nick and Mary Kunka (nee Lylyk) on October 25, 1939. As a young child the family moved many times, living in; Mink Creek, Pine River, Minitonas, and finally in Sclater. She married Joseph Matwee at the age of eighteen and they had nine children. She survived many hardships, as six children passed very young.

Joseph predeceased her in 1983 and from there she moved to Minitonas. There she met John Staniland and they remained together until his passing in 2018. In January 2019 Jean went into hospital and from there into Fairhaven Apartments, where she passed peacefully on November 11, 2020.

23rd Psalm: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures; He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for Thou art with me; Thy rod and Thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”

Jean is survived by her children; Walter (Lil) of Valemount, BC, Arlene and Randy, both of Stettler, Alberta; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews; siblings Katie of Birch River, Manitoba, Nester of Valmount, BC, Melvin (Corinne) of Sorrento, BC, and Metro (Marie) of McKenzie, BC. She was predeceased by her husband Joseph; six children; mother and father; brothers Eddy, Kasmer, Orest; sisters Christine and Roseanna; brothers in law William Olinyk and Peter Hrechka; sister in law Janet Kunka; and common law partner John Staniland.

A graveside service and interment were held at the Sclater Ridge Cemetery on Saturday, November 21, 2020 with Father Yaroslav Strukhlyak officiating.
