Joan Wilma Macooh
1934 - 2025
Joan Wilma Macooh (nee Stacey) peacefully went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ the evening of January 9th, 2025 after a short hospital stay.
Joan was born to Charlie and Helen Stacey on the family farm near Benito on
November 26th, 1934. She attended grade school in Benito and high school in Swan River going on to post-secondary education at Winnipeg Normal School where she earned her teaching certificate.
In July of 1957 she married Henry Macooh and they began life together in Flin Flon,MB then moved on to Kenora, Ontario before returning to Benito in 1962 to start the family business, Macooh’s Garage. They enjoyed 53 wonderful years together until Henry’s passing in April 2010 with her at his side.
Joan leaves to mourn her sons Dale, Barry (Karen), Dean (Charmaine), grandsons Steven (Kelly), Cale (Danielle), granddaughters Courtney Gaillard (Reese) and Alex Ginther (Cole).
Also, the evening before her passing although extremely weak, Joan was thrilled to firmly grasp a cell phone with both hands to meet her first great grandchild, 5 day old Russell Gaillard, over video chat. She also leaves numerous friends and family whose lives she touched, evident in the multiple messages our family has received upon her passing.
She was predeceased by her husband Henry and daughter in law Delilah.
Mom spent her life building into both her family and others through her career as a teacher, librarian, Dr’s office receptionist and homemaker while being highly active in the community and Valley Evangelical Covenant Church.
Joan’s well lived earthly life has come to an end and her eternal, everlasting life in heaven has begun, where every day is sweeter than the day before.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes cremation has taken place and a small family service will follow.
