Joel Campbell
2003 - 2020
Our family changed forever on January 29, 2020 with the tragic passing of our son, Joel Blair Campbell. Joel was born June 9, 2003 in Swan River, Manitoba. The family was completed with the arrival of his sister Amara in 2005. Joel was a gentle and thoughtful brother. In the early years he would show affection with hugs and kisses. In later years that was replaced with digital messaging, playing video games together and including his sister in activities so that she didn’t feel left out.
Joel received his early education in Minitonas and was currently in grade eleven at SVRSS. He was considering post-secondary education in agriculture and joining the family farming business. His favourite part of school was definitely the hours spent with friends playing sports. He did a good job of balancing his studies and his team commitments.
Joel was content to be a country farm kid, living with his family near Minitonas. He liked the freedom of jumping on the quad or snow machine at any time. He loved many sports including hockey, baseball, football and volleyball. Joel always looked forward to summer fun at the lake. He enjoyed time with his family playing countless games, usually girls against guys. He was known for his love of sweets, cheese pizza, milkshakes, steak ends, video games and good hair.
Joel had matured into an easy-going, quietly confident, young man. He had strong morals and in some ways he was wise beyond his years, striving to be independent. Hearing comments from others about Joel’s kind ways, good nature and polite manners has made us very proud parents.
Joel is survived by his parents Blair and Lee-Anne Campbell; sister Amara; grandparents John and Diane Kichuk and Harold and Lorraine Campbell; Aunts, Uncles and Cousins: Jen and Blaine Campbell (Hannah and Alex); Kim and Barry Campbell (Jayvin and Rory); Rose Marie and Brad Campbell (Tyne (Kenyon), Tori (Jordan and kids) and Drake); Laurie and Lee Evans (Blake); Wendy Kichuk (Bethany, Abby and Josie) and Kevin Barker (Brayden and Blair); Neil and Brenna Kichuk (Hallie, Nyah and Connor) and family pet dog Buddy and cat Pippy. He was so fortunate to have the love and support of these people in his daily life.
Hearts were broken with this sudden loss of Joel at such a young age. He will be missed by so many family members and friends. Joel had a good life and our memories will bring comfort in time.
An evening viewing was held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services, Swan River, on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service was held on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. from the Veterans Community Hall, Swan River, with Rev.
