John Leshkewich Obituary

John Leshkewich

1930 – 2024

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of John Leshkewich at the age of 93, on

January 13, 2024, at the Swan Valley Health Centre, after enduring a courageous battle with cancer.

John was community minded. He served on the municipality council from 1981 – 1987. He also served for several years on the Alpine Hall Board.

John had retired from farming in 1989, renting out the land, and in 2023 to make his life easier, he moved into the Thunderhill Courts in Benito. John loved his farms, he travelled to them almost daily to Alpine.

John is survived by three sisters: Anne and Diane of Napa, California, Ida (Ed) of Swan River. Uncle John also leaves to mourn his nephews and niece, Greg (Gail) Gorchynski of Winnipeg, MB, Angie (Merlin) Bartel of Benito, MB, Jay (Nerissa) Gorchynski of Swan River, MB, Trevor (Wendy) Gorchynski of Calgary, AB, Jeffrey Leshkewich of Hamilton, ON, as well as step nephew, great nieces and nephews and numerous great, great nieces and nephews.

John was predeceased by his parents Katherine and Sebastian, brothers William, Paul, Nick, and sister Elizabeth.

The family extends their sincere thanks to the staff at the Swan Valley Health Centre who took such fine care of John for his final days. You showed great kindness, respect, and care.

If friends so desire, memorial donations in John’s memory may be made to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation 675 McDermot Ave Room ON1160 Winnipeg, MB R3C 0V9.

In keeping with John’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a service will be held at a later date.
