John Wintoniw

It is with deep sadness and great memories our family announces the passing of John Wintoniw on Tuesday November 1st, 2022 at the age of 96 at the Swan Valley Health Centre.

John was born in Nyzhniv, Ivano-Frankivsk in western Ukraine to Wasyl & Katherine Wintoniw. In 1930 his father left for a better life in Canada settling in Hyas, SK. John followed with his mother in 1932. In the 1940’s they uprooted again and bought a farm in Durban, MB. In 1961 another opportunity arose and the family purchased a larger farm closer to the village of Durban where he grain farmed with his parents until he met his future wife Dianne.

In July of 1982 John married Dianne where they continued farming with the help of Dianne’s 2 sons, Michael & Daniel. They were blessed with 2 more children, Kathy & Johnny Jr.

John enjoyed grain farming until his health failed and he had to rent out his land. He continued to keep himself busy by planting a small garden and looking after a few animals. John was a hard worker who enjoyed the country life and the freedom and quiet it offered. He remained at the farm just shy of his 95th birthday when he was admitted to the Swan Valley Health Centre.

John is sadly mourned and missed by Dianne, his wife of many years, his daughter Kathy (Ray), son Johnny (Jenna), grandchildren (Parker & Quinn), step sons Michael (Donna) & Daniel (Dawn), step grandchildren Morgan, Dakota, Quinn, Rogan and Westyn.    

He was predeceased by his parents Wasyl & Katherine Wintoniw.
