Joseph Louis Gosselin

1939 – 2020

On October 9, 2020, Louie passed away at the Swan Valley Health Centre, at the age of 81.

Louie was born on May 24, 1939 in Swan River to Jim and Maggie Gosselin. He got his education at Glover Creek School. He married Phyllis Smith in 1958 and together they had five children, Delores (Joe) of British Columbia, Julie (Lorne) of Regina, Saskatchewan, Donna (Dan) of Swan River, Manitoba, Doug (Brenda) of Winnipeg, Manitoba and Larry of Thompson, Manitoba; along with fourteen grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild.

He also leaves behind brothers, Raymond (Pam) of Swan River, Dennis (Liza) of Durban, Manitoba; sisters, Freda (Herb) of Birch River, Manitoba, Phyllis (Clifford) of Swan River, May (Dave) of Birch River, Shirley (Ron) of Manitou, Manitoba, and Leona (Ernie) of Port Elgin.

Louie was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Maggie Gosselin; sisters, Rita, Laura, and Bernadette; brother, Adrien; grandson, Travis; niece, Tammy; nephews, Lee and Duane; and great nephew, Rylen.

Louie’s first job was with CN Rail and from there he went on to work many years for Mid West Diamond Drilling. His work on the drills took him all over Canada and as far away as South America. After tragically losing his arm in a work accident in 1979, he was no longer able to work.

Even with his disability Louie never gave up on living. His love of life was abundant. He would tell stories for hours to anyone who would listen. Having family visits were his favourite times. His brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, kids, and grandkids were his world. He loved country music “George Jones” of course, and he never ran out of stories and jokes. He was one of a kind, often referred to as, “The Man, The Legend”. He had a heart as big as the sky and enough love to give to all.  He will be forever missed.

Evening prayers were held from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services on Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 7:00 p.m. A funeral service was held on Friday, October 16, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. also from the Chapel of Swan Valley Funeral Services with Father Norberto Monton officiating. Interment followed in the Bellsite Cemetery.
