Laura Poole Obituary

In Loving Memory….

With sadness the family of Mrs. Laura Poole announces the passing of their mother, grandmother, great grandmother, great-great grandmother, and sister on Monday, July 29, 2024, at the age of 95 in Swan River, Manitoba at the Swan River Valley Personal Care Home.

Laura grew up on the family farm west of Swan River with her parents Bill and Margaret Alford and four brothers (Roy, Gordon, Edwin and Alvin) and three sisters (Lilian, Marjorie and Dorothy).

Laura married Walter Poole (son of Thomas and Jessie) September 5, 1951. Over the next ten years they had seven children. They had a big job ahead. Sadly, Walter died January 24, 1969.  All that work went to mom. Us kids will be forever grateful for her commitment to raise her kids with a focus to survive and contribute to family and community   – then she helped with grandkids – and then great grandkids. In our family she is a hero – accolades befitting a queen.

Her commitment to family was amazing – feeding, baby sitting, travelling across the country to hold a newborn grandchild or great grandchild. We all have so many wonderful memories of her hugs – her laugh – and willingness to scold when she thought it was necessary.

It is important to thank mom’s siblings for playing an important part in helping her raise seven children. We love you all. It is a reminder of the importance of family.

Laura was pre-deceased by her daughter Karen (2022), her sons-in-law Archie Ripmeester and Danny Stilborn and her brothers Roy, Gordon and Edwin and sisters Lilian and Marjorie.

Laura will be lovingly remembered by her children, Allan (Sharon), Ron (Michele), Calvin (Tara), Cheryl (Archie), Wendy (Darcy), Tom, and Marie Poole, 18 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren, her brother Alvin (Darlene), sister Dorthy and sister-in-law Clara (Gordon) – and many nieces and nephews.

Hey Mom - you have a huge tribe who love you dearly. You are special in so many ways.

Rest in Peace Mom

Love: Allan, Ron, Calvin, Cheryl, Wendy and Tom

Respecting mom’s wishes she will be cremated and there will not be a formal funeral.  The family will have a Celebration of Life at a future date.  Family and friends will be informed when a date is set.

Mom will be laid to rest along side her husband Walter in the Birchwood Cemetery, Swan River, MB.
