In Remembrance
Leah Martin
1925 - 2023
On June 17th, 2023 Leah Martin, age 98 years, passed away at the Swan Valley Lodge in Swan River, Manitoba. Leah was born to Frank and Clara Allen in Swan River, Manitoba. She had three sisters, Anna, Freda, and June. Leah often spoke of the hardships they endured while growing up and moving from farm to farm around the valley to make a living.
As a young teenager, Leah began working as a sales clerk at Eli Cox and Sons dry-goods store in Swan River. Perhaps this is where she developed her love for people. She had a loving and generous nature…always willing to help people.
Leah married Lloyd Martin on September 28, 1949. Together they built a life farming in the Floradale District while raising two children, Bob and Sharon. While fulfilling her daily duties on the farm, she worked outside the home at various jobs throughout the years. Leah enjoyed entertaining, gardening, berry picking, canning preserves, baking/cooking, camping, and fishing. Oh, and we can’t forget, milking cows. Her pastime hobbies were quilting, knitting, puzzles, cards, bingo, and listening to country and gospel music. She also enjoyed watching baseball and curling on TV.
In 2010 Leah moved to the Heritage Manor where she met new friends and maintained her independence and privacy in her own suite. Due to her declining health, Leah moved to the Swan Valley Lodge in July 2019 until her passing.
Leah was a spirited, compassionate, energetic, and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was a devoted wife to her late husband Lloyd. Leah lived her life fully and joyously… touching all who knew her!
Leah leaves to mourn her son Bob [Becky] Martin Sigfusson, Lundar Beach, MB; her daughter Sharon [Ervin] Allen, Swan River, MB; as well as four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Christie [Jordan], Ethan, Connor Young, Grimshaw, AB; Kerry [Don] Allen Baker, Virden, MB; Cheryl [Jayson], Avery, Bryson, Ciara Verbong, Winnipeg, MB; James [Kelly], Landon, Emberly Martin, Oak Bluff, MB; sister Freda McNeil, Kelowna, BC; sister-in-law Beth Galbraith, Swan River, MB; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Leah was predeceased by her husband Lloyd in 1996, parents Frank and Clara Allen, and sisters Anna Morran and June Martin.
